Causes and Effects of Social Media There is no denying that the expansions of the World Wide Web and social media have skyrocketed in the last few years. It all started with the birth of MySpace for Generation Z in 2003. It then happened again later in 2004, when Mark Zuckerburg created the most commonly known and used Facebook, which then led to the launch of Twitter in 2006. Ultimately, what all of this is saying, is that the effects of social media have impacted the lives of many since 2003. All of these social sites piggyback off of one another and it has created a nation that has become dependent on the use of social media. People are using social media as a way to get their news, instead of actually watching the news. Instead of†¦show more content†¦This birth was known as Twitter. Twitter was launched in 2006. The purpose of Twitter was to create a â€Å"mini blogging† site, hence the reason that its users are limited to 140 characters per tweet. In 2009, it wa s ranked as the top 3 social sites out of the ones mentioned and multiple more. As time progressed, Instagram was released in 2010. Instagram is similar to Facebook because one is able to share photographs, but that is Instagram’s sole purpose. Instagram allows the users to upload photos, edit those photos, and write captions to go along with them. Moving along, in 2011, a different form of social media came out. The famous Snapchat that quickly escalated. Snapchat allows one to send and receive snapchats that dissolve after 10 seconds or less. It began where one could only send pictures and receive them, but then the creators attended the instant messaging part. The messages, much like the pictures, are gone as soon as one is finished it with it. It is easy to see how quickly social media progressed and in a very small time frame. The impact social media has made is very evident and it has created a never ending list of possibilities because of this drastic expansion. Since social media surfaced, it has created many new opportunities, whether it be for businesses or just keeping up to date with what one’s favorite celebrity is doing.
